COURSE OVERVIEW
This course is an awareness level course only, designed to introduce personnel to some of the aspects of working in a high voltage area. It is suitable for mechanical and operations personnel and provides an understanding of electrical safety and operation of electrical equipment, including:
- Safe access to controlled electrical areas
- Safe approach distances for high voltage apparatus
COURSE OUTLINE
- An overview of the legislative requirements and Australian Standards relevant to high voltage installations
- The dangers associated with high voltages when working around high voltage systems and equipment
- Safety procedures to follow in order to ensure a safe work environment
- Permit procedures, including high voltage isolation and access procedures and processes

A person conducting a business or undertaking must ensure, so far as is reasonably practiable, the provision of any information, instruction, training or supervision that is necessary to protect all persons from risks to their health and safety arising from work carried out.
You must ensure that information, training and instruction provided to a worker is suitable and adequate having regard to:
- The nature of the work carried out by the worker
- The nature of the risks associated with the work at the time the information, training or instruction is provided
- The control measures implemented
You must ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that the information, training and instruction is provided in a way that is readily understandable by any person to whom it is provided.
