With over two decades of experience as an Electrical/Instrument fitter in the mining and processing industries, Matthew Bennett brings strong leadership and commitment to safety in his current role as the Director of Electrical Safety Services.
Matthew holds the following qualifications:
- Diploma in Management
- Lead Auditor in WHS & Quality Management Systems
- Integrated Governance, Risk Management & Compliance
- Cert IV Training & Assessment
- QMS 123 – Qualified Supervisors Certificate
- Electrical Trade
- Instrumentation Trade
He is a licenced electrician in Queensland, New South Wales, Western Australia and Northern Territory. He is also an Accredited Queensland Hazardous Areas Auditor, an Accredited Queensland High Voltage Auditor, a Radiation Safety Officer & Use Licence, and a Papua New Guinea (PNG) Mine Electrician. Some of his prominent achievements include works with Ok Tedi Mining Limited – PNG, APLNG – Curtis Island Gas Project, and Newcrest Mining – PNG.
Matthew worked on reviewing and updating High Voltage Safety procedures to meet Australian industry standards at Ok Tedi Mining, development and implementation of Electrical Safety & High Voltage Management Procedures at the Lihir Operations of Newcrest Mining, and development of Policies & Procedure for PNG Electricity Entity Licence and successful submission with the PNG ICCC (Electricity Regulator).
Matthew drives to challenge the current training and learning systems in the electrical industry and develop more relevant and accessible solutions for the modern electrical worker and to embrace technology to expand knowledge, improve skills and ensure electrical worker safety.
Earning his PhD at University of Wollongong in 2005, Chris Hawley now works as the Director and Principal Consultant at Engenuity Solutions and well as being a principle consultant and advisor to Electrical Safety Services. He is an expert on Strategic and management planning, Quality and OHS auditing, risk and incident assessment, HV power system design and modelling, and Power distribution and energy planning, and much more.

Among his extensive experience in the industry, Chris has worked at the Department of Defence assessing (base lining in terms of condition, capacity and compliance), providing maintenance recommendations and Whole of Life planning and costing for assets at eight defence bases across New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. He also worked at Arrium on decommissioning two existing stacker machines and replacing with two new machines in South Australia. Decades of substantial experience make him a exceptional advisor to ESS.
